About Rattan

Rattan has been used for centuries as a material for furniture making given its strength, durability and lightness. It is also one of the most sustainable materials growing over five metres a year meaning it can be fully grown and harvested in just two years. As a creeping plant its harvesting is done in a manner not to disturb the trees it grows upon. Rattan furniture is truly environmentally friendly.
The company making our products is a small family owned company based in Java, Indonesia employing local craftsman who make the furniture by hand using traditional methods. The rattan is all sourced locally in Java.

Most rattan furniture is made for use indoors but depending on the finish it can be used outdoors in covered environments. Exposure to direct sun and wet weather should be avoided to maximise the lifetime of the furniture.
