Vintage Asian Crane & Bamboo Painting ~ Silk

$480

A unique vintage Asian Crane & Bamboo Painting in beautiful muted shades of light green, beige and white tones. Painted in India on Silk with completely naturally-derived pigments, which was likely made for the Asian Market. Approximately from the 1980's.

Silk painting is an ancient art form originating in China. Artists use fine silk as a canvas, employing specialised brushes to create intricate designs. The smooth surface of silk allows for delicate brushstrokes and subtle color blending, resulting in luminous and detailed artworks.

Cranes, particularly the Red-crowned Crane, hold significant cultural symbolism in East Asian art, representing longevity, good fortune, and fidelity. They are frequently depicted in traditional paintings, often alongside bamboo, which symbolises strength, flexibility, and resilience. These motifs are common in Chinese and Japanese art, used to convey auspicious meanings and aesthetic beauty.

This painting, with its depiction of cranes and bamboo, likely draws from these rich artistic traditions. Such artworks were often created on silk or rice paper, employing delicate brushwork and a muted color palette to evoke a sense of tranquility and harmony.

We recommend to frame the painting in a beautiful gold bamboo frame with a contrast coloured passe-partout. Please get in touch with us if you would like us to get it framed for you, which would get charged extra.

Please note that this is a vintage piece of art which shows small signs of aging, such as small chips of paint. It is however in good condition with no faults.
